5 Ways to Stay Motivated

March 7, 2017 Fitness

Unfortunately, there is no magic pill when it comes to motivation. Well.. sometimes mine comes in the form of delicious latte.. but no, motivation takes discipline and get up and go. Some people are just born with an endless supply of motivation and then others zip… nil.. nothing! So, we thought we’d help you out with 5 ways to stay motivated.

As they say – nothing worth having comes easy, so you will need to change your mindset and focus on why you have chosen a healthy lifestyle. You may have had a health scare, want to prevent a health scare, want more energy or simply want to feel good in a bikini this summer. So grab a pen and pad – write down these 5 tips and think about how you will implement each one.

Measure your progress

Hold upppp! Do not get on those scales! Measuring your progress to us does not mean weighing yourself on the scales. They mean absolutely nothing. Why? Your body weight fluctuates with water retention particularly during your cycle, secondly your scales may not be accurate and thirdly muscle weighs more than fat! It’s not about a number, it’s about how you feel. So this is what we want you to track:

  • Bloating
  • Energy levels
  • Sleep quality
  • Stress Levels
  • Your skin & eyes
  • Mood swings
  • Track fat loss/muscle gains using photos

Keep it interesting

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting a different result” – Einstein. When you have chosen to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle it is important to add variety so that you don’t plateau. Following a workout plan is a good way to make sure you are doing something different at the gym everyday. Or why not get out of the gym and into a dance class, or on the weekend go rock climbing to have fun while keeping active. Every Thursday night at our household is rest day, so to keep it interesting with food we try something new from Jamie Oliver’s Superfood Cookbook. Try cooking something new once a week, we promise healthy food doesn’t have to be boring.

Small Wins

Don’t focus too much on the end goal right now, as this can become overwhelming making you more susceptible to backing down. Instead, try focusing your energy on the smaller goals along the way and each one you accomplish will provide positive motivation to keep you on the path to success. Achieving those small wins will encourage you and create an enjoyable journey to a healthy life.

Stay Accountable

Stay accountable to yourself. Write down your goals and put them somewhere you will see them everyday. They can be weekly goals like “I will be active 4 days this week” or monthly goals “I will not drink alcohol for the month of November”. When you make that promise to yourself, keep it! And each time you achieve a goal tick it off and reward yourself!

Motivation comes from within but sometimes we all need that kick in the backside to fire it up, so find a gym buddy to stay accountable to. Surrounding yourself with friends who share your interest in a healthy lifestyle will encourage your passion and help you stay on track.

Be kind to yourself

Don’t compare yourself to anyone. Find inspiration from fit and healthy role models, and let that be a driving force. You are your own person, following your own journey. Listen to your body, take the time to rest and recover to avoid burning out. And make sure you reward yourself, this is the best positive motivation for us all. When you achieve those small wins buy that new activewear you’ve had your eye on or eat that slice of cake and allow yourself to enjoy it.
